Blurb

Philip is a good boy, a really good boy, who accidentally gets sent to hell to become the Devil’s heir. The Devil, Lucifer , is dying and desperately in need of a successor, but there’s been a mistake and Philip is the wrong boy. Philip is terrible at being bad, but Lucifer has no other choice than to begin the difficult task of training him in the ways of evil. Philip gets both friends and enemies in this odd, gloomy underworld – but who can he trust , when he discovers an evil-minded plot against the dark throne.

The Devil’s Apprentice is volume 1 in The Great Devil War series .

Well firstly I should have known I would enjoy this book after a lovely chat with Danielle ( Book_obsessed1) who was shouting about this book from the rooftops.

The Devil’s Apprentice is a young adult book and something a little different for me. It did take me a few days to work by way through it but that wasn’t due to the book at all, it was the fact I went back to reread it with my son. That’s right we spent some quality mother son time with this book. I had to race ahead to finish the book for the blog tour , but that means I get to enjoy it again. Sorry rambling away.

Poor Philip , an angel of a boy and ends up seeing himself in hell. Wrong person wrong time kinda situation. It did crack a few giggles though. Philip really doesn’t deserve to be in hell, a 13 year old Boy Scout who can do no wrong. For Lucifer it really is hell and the thought of Philip and all his goodness makes him vomit . Lucifer really has his work cut out trying to show Philip the ropes. He doesn’t have much time to turn the Angel into a devil.

The Devil’s Apprentice is a really intriguing fast paced read with plenty twists and turns to keep you on your toes. I adored Andersen’s vivid descriptions of hell , far from being just a burning fire pit , it’s a town in its own right. Andersen explores why we need good and evil in the world. It all popped to life in my head and made for an even more enjoyable read.

Philip makes some friends along the way, Lucifer , a talking black cat Lucifax and a pretty devil Santina. Not only did I find some of the scenes with Lucifax funny but I had an 11 year old laughing his head off.

A perfectly written Young Adult book. It’s creative , imaginative, well thought-out, fast paced and beautifully written.

We are looking forward to the next books to enjoy together.

Keep an eye out for the hash tag and the other amazing bloggers who are all reviewing this excellent book.
